We teach you how to play Aussie Rules
Never played AFL? No worries. If you have a background in GAA, Rugby or Soccer, your skills translate immediately. We'll teach you the rest through training sessions and practice matches, so everyone is ready for round one.
Draft Day
Halfway through the summer, we draft evenly matched teams so every game is competitive.
With rolling substitutions, everyone plays meaningful minutes. Even in professional Aussie Rules, players average around 80% game time; intensity stays high, and no one is left standing on the sideline.

All the rewards
All the intensity of GAA and Rugby. A fraction of the time commitment. If you want to compete this is built for you.
Is Aussie Rules as
physical as Rugby?
In Aussie Rules if you're tackled with the ball, it's a turnover. As a result you don't get the rugby style big collisions of players running directly into each other
You don't actually have to tackle your opponent to ground
Many tackles happen entirely on their feet. A successful tackle is often just wrapping up the arms to stop a kick or handpass. The umpire blows the whistle and the game resets without a heavy collision.
When tackles go to ground
When momentum brings players to the ground, the focus is on safely bringing the opponent down rather than driving through them. Strict rules protect the head and back, ensuring every takedown is a highly controlled movement.
Built to Be Tight.
AFL Galway is designed to keep competition fierce from Round 1 to the Finals. Thanks to our draft system no team runs away with the league, every game matters!
In our trial league all 3 teams were tied on 12 points after 6 matches! Only in the final 2 matches the Galway Roos developed a lead and became Champions

It's €60 for the full season. New players sign up for free! We only charge new players after you've attended your first 2 training sessions and know it's for you.
Do I need to know how to play Aussie Rules (AFL)?
Most of our league are GAA or Rugby players crossing over. The first half of the summer is training sessions and practice matches to teach you how to play.
What gear do I need?
Just football boots (studs) and a mouthguard.
What is the exact time commitment?
Zero weekend commitments. Training sessions and matches are every Wednesday night at St Mary's College. You show up, play a high-intensity game, and go for an optional pint or MiWadi after. That's it.
Limited spots available.
